So, I’ve been curious about Yerba Mate tea for quite some time, haven’t got around to actually trying any yet, however, the other day on Facebook I discovered something that caught my eye. It’s called MateVeza… As in Mate beer! No joke, someone had the idea to brew Yerba Mate tea, into a dark lager beer “that won’t let you down”

MateVeza was conceived in 2004 by homebrewer Jim Woods after he fortuitously followed a sip of freshly brewed yerba mate with a hoppy pale ale in his San Francisco apartment. No stranger to creating his own beer recipes, sparks flew for Jim, as the contrasting flavors of yerba mate, hops and malt came together to create a delicious and truly unique beer drinking experience. Woods had first learned about yerba mate from his cousin and later experienced the yerba mate culture firsthand when he himself had the privilege of traveling to Argentina.

Sounds interesting! If you’ve read my blog in the past, I am always curious about strange lesser known beers and microbrews.

Sadly though, right now I can’t get it in Florida.

They also have an Ale, which is actually what I found on Facebook.

I was also watching stuff off of my DVR, like Eureka, which is like my most favorite show right now, though Warehouse 13 takes a close second. A VERY close second. Eureka is great, take a small town of geniuses, shove a really good cop in there that doesn’t know science, and you have Eureka.

I am also watching Ghostbusters II that I recorded on the DVR weeks ago. Man, I am looking forward to the new movie regardless of how it turns out, and no I have not gone to see G.I. Joe yet.

The weirdest part of the screwy last couple of days, is this morning, the light above the mirror in my bathroom in my brother’s townhouse fell off the wall, completely random, I was in there, I saw the light go out and heard it fall in the dark this morning. That was a little creepy, it certainly creeped me out. I wonder if I will ever go in there again and wonder if the light will fall. I was near the thing but my hand was on the complete opposite wall, weird. Mini-earthquake?

I just finished off a bottle of Full Sail LTD No. 2. It’s ok, kind of a funky Lager, it was ok, though I don’t quite care for it that much, a little too dry and bitter for my taste, but that’s ok. Obviously I am not going to like everything.

It’s been a weird wee so far but some interesting things came of it, let’s just say I have a new friend who as it turns out is related to some people my family already knows. But that’s not how she found me. We’ll see, at the very least it’s nice to have a new friend anyway.

I’ve also discovered the massive amount of Doctor Who classic episodes on Netflix…hmmmm.

Man I remember this one too! Though it’s weird, it still has the ending credits of the “Super Mario Bros Super Show ” without any of the show itself.

I also watched Coraline, kind of creepy, but not so scary like I had assumed.

Last night and this morning I put the rest of the beer in the freezer and then in the fridge to get them cold. As of right now all I drank was Banks Caribbean Lager. Pretty good lager beer, it got a little funky at the bottom of the bottle but not bad at all. Not too strong, not too bitter. I don’t know if it tastes of summer, don’t know what summer tastes like.

I also discovered the chips and dip shelves at World Market I LOVE nachos, I had a bag of World Market blue tortilla chips with Frontera Gourmet Mexican Salsa, the red pepper and garlic flavor, very nice, chunky, maybe could have been a little more stuff in it, but overall not bad.

So I pulled out two (not in the dark this time) with foil over the caps, both were brewed in Canada. The first one was Ephemere Apple flavored Ale (apparently they also have Raspberry). You can smell the green apple flavor when you open the bottle, and it’s kind of light, but it has some sweetness to it which is nice. The other one was Blanche De Chambly, the bottle says “White beer on lees”, there is something different about it I can’t quite figure out how to describe, I also quite liked this one too.

I also watched Watchmen, hot dang, some of the violence was a bit much for my taste, but over all pretty darn awesome movie. I needed an escape after some weird crap today. I’m going to run this one back to the Redbox before I forget. I have two other movies to watch this week.

I also tried the Vacu Vin Rapid Ice, yeah, sorry it does not make a beer cold in 5 minutes like it claims. It made the bottom of the bottle cold in 10 minutes, but not the beer. The beer might have been better colder, maybe. I don’t know. Going to go back to putting the beer in the freezer for an hour and then in the fridge. Or just leave it in the fridge until it is cold. Whatever.

Well, I walked out with their “Summer Beers” sampler, that’s 10 more to try out, but I will not do it all at once lol. That’s too many for me to drink at once thank you very much, like I said I am not a big drinker. Heh. I will of course be posting about those beers along with other things as usual.

So I discovered the left side of World Market, the back wall has cases and cases of beer. Also a shelf where you can make your own 6 pack. So I thought hey, why not, so I picked out 6 beers. Monty Python’s Holy Grail Ale (which was tempered over burning witches), Harpoon Cider, Abita Purple Haze, Hurricane Reef Caribbean Style Pilsner, Hobgoblin Dark English Ale, and Rogue Mocha Porter.

The Holy Grail Ale was actually pretty good, I mean it’s an ale, not too strong, which for me is a good thing, not sure about strong beers. The Harpoon Cider, eh, well it’s a cider, it was kind of dry and not so sweet, I prefer sweeter ciders. Regarding the Abita Purple Haze, I’m not sure, it’s has a Raspberry taste, but what’s weird is in the beer you don’t really taste it until you get the after taste, I’m not sure about this one might have to try it again. The Hurricane Reef was a bit of a sweet Pilsner, kind of a nice taste to it, it’s a bonus, this beer was brewed here in Florida. It’s nice to support a brewery in my own state. The Hobgoblin I picked up because it reminded me of a Pub I visited in Bath, England that I think had the same name, it’s a dark ale, so it’s a little strong. The Rogue Mocha Porter, yuck, too strong for me, I can’t say much other than that. I was going to say that I haven’t had a beer I didn’t like in the bunch, until the Rogue Mocha Porter, other than that I am not sure if any are my favorites just yet
