These things annoy me…

The following came to mind while eating lunch, I heard someone order “Unsweet Tea”. It also clicked with me after reading a blog post about the proper pronunciation of Ubuntu. Here is a list of things that annoy me. Please however, take this with a grain of salt, because if you notice, even I am contradictory of myself.

People who call plain Iced Tea “Unsweet Tea” annoy me, because to me it sounds like the tea had once been sweetened but now it is not.

People who pronounce Jaguar like JagWIRE. There is NO “I” in the word. However if you are referring to the car, Jag-you-are is fine.

People who waste time arguing over the pronunciation of Linux, Ubuntu or OS X. Who cares! However, Linux isn’t LINE-EX there is no “E” in it. Even Leo Laporte says O S-EX  not OS 10.

People  who say “fixin’ to” you are not fixing anything.

None better than AmieStreet

Recently my hard drive went to crap on me,  I was able to save all the data and just re-install windows by cloning to my other drive, but I lost my MP3s and some old documents in the process, most of that though was old school work, not too important really.

Some of the MP3s I lost were from AmieStreet, which I found out about through the Net@Nite Podcast. They’re a site for Indie music that starts the cost per MP3 at $0 then it goes up to $0.98 based on popularity. I’ve got a ton of music that way.

What I didn’t know was, they have a limit on the number of times you can download a song, I went to download and it failed, so I sent them a message asking if they could help me, and within a couple of hours, I got a response from Adam, telling me that my download count was reset, and I got a few RECs added. RECs give you the ability to recommend songs you like, you can get credit in your account per sale for your RECs and you can cash out the credit to buy songs at any time.

Props to Adam @ AmieStreet! They’ve got great friendly people working there.

If you see this on Facebook, the Fantasy music label app I just added is tied to my AmieStreet account, kinda cool.

OpenID

Imagine using one login for multiple websites, like Google or Yahoo does with their own sites, or Microsoft did with their partners and Passport, but a completely open system.

I you have an AIM account or a LiveJournal you already have it, it’s called an OpenID! On any site that accepts OpenID you simply enter an OpenID URL in the OpenID form field such as lonelygiant.livejournal.com, you would then log into LiveJournal, and you’d already be registered and logged in to the other site. There are many MANY OpenID Providers and sites that accept it too.

Identitude allows you to use your Facebook account as an OpenID by installing a Facebook application.

Pibb is a social network, which accepts OpenID and it can be linked to your Facebook account with a Facebook app as well.

Is there some kind of theme here LOL.

For more of such things, check out OpenID Site Directory and The OpenID Directory

Rediscovering the Library

Recently I have rediscovered my local libraries (again). They are not the libraries they used to be, they’re 1000 fold what they used to be, everything at my local library can be done online except for renewing my card! I can renew something, place a hold, etc. There’s no standing in line either, the hold items are placed on a shelf for pickup, and there is self-checkout too.  Sheesh, I remember as a kid having to dig through the card catalog at one of our older libraries. Everything is now computerized, even time on the computers is reserved with a library card.

Visit your local libraries, you will be glad you did.

Facebook, LiveJournal & My Blog

As of a few minutes ago, I have set Facebook to automaticly import my blog posts as Facebook notes. So now my blog posts are in three places. The blog itself, LiveJournal, and Facebook.  Also as an added bonus, any Facebook comments will be imported into the blog, thanks to a WordPress plugin.

I am in the process of tweaking the blog, I just changed he theme, and also tweaked the theme to add the tags. I’m researching plugins and whatnot as well, there’s now a page on the blog that shows all the plugins I currently use.

Some Updates

I just updated my blog to the latest version of WordPress. I got tired of Live+Press constantly breaking so I replaced it with a different LiveJournal plugin. I lost the moods on the blog, but that’s ok. I will continue to crosspost to LiveJournal as long as it is still possible.

I’ve made other behind the scenes changes, mainly to improve how the site looks to search engines and what not. More changes to come.
